CGHI Partners

The Chicago Green Health Care Initiative is a collaborative partnership by the City of Chicago, Health Care Without Harm, an international  organization, and the U.S. EPA.

• City of Chicago

  The City of Chicago Department of Public Health leads CGHI as part of its effort to reduce environmental hazards and ensure access to health care for all Chicagoans. The CGHI supports the Department's Healthy Chicago Agenda, supporting hosptials' ability to provide access to care, as well as strengthening the city's health infrastructure in mitigating and preparing for the effects of climate change.

• Health Care Without Harm
  An international not-for-profit organization that works to significantly reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses and pollution created by the healthcare sector. CGHI is part of Health Care Without Harms efforts to support healthcare facilities around the country with a Healthy Hospital Initiative.

• U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
  Through its Climate Showcase Communities program, seeks to create replicable models for greenhouse gas reductions that catalyze broader local actions to improve environmental, economic, health, and social conditions. EPA's Energy Star and Waste Wise Programs along with from Region 5 technical experts also support the initiative.

• Global Philanthropy Partnership
  Works with the City of Chicago to implement the Chicago Climate Action Plan.
• Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP)
  The official regional planning organization for the northeastern Illinois counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will.
• The William J. Clinton Foundation
  Through its Clinton Climate Initiative, works with the world’s largest cities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
• Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO)
  Provides a foundation for the economic prosperity of all Illinoisans, through the coordination of business recruitment and retention, infrastructure building and job training efforts, and administration of state and federal grant programs.
• Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council (MCHC)
  Membership and service association working together to improve the delivery of health care services in the Chicago area.
• Practice Greenhealth
  Works with over 1,000 U.S. member hospitals to provide sustainable operations training and mentoring.
• University of Illinois Chicago's Center of Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety
  Conducts research and evaluation of the initiative via the HCWH Research Collaborative which is located at UIC.
• U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) - Illinois Chapter
  1,400-plus member organization represents the entire spectrum of Illinois’ green building community..
• U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL)
  Federal laboratory dedicated to the research, development, commercialization and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
